Particles, fields, and the ontology of the standard model

Abstract In this work we discuss issues of ontological commitment towards one the most important examples contemporary fundamental science: standard model particle physics. We present a new form selective structural realism, which uses as its basis distinction between what have been called framework and interaction theories. This allows us to advance ongoing debate about status (quasi-)particles quantum fields, by emphasising field theory serving framework, itself, argue is an embedded within framework. Following discussion commitments corresponds each these two classes, that some previous proposals in literature might misguided blending into undifferentiated unity, defend moderate object realism with respect particle-like entities.
